Some pretty unpleasant remarks from Genzel in this interview. Why do some men feel the need to behave like this? https://www.spiegel.de/international/zeitgeist/nobel-prize-in-physics-winner-it-s-unbelievable-all-that-s-going-on-at-the-moment-in-astronomy-a-6b4867e5-ead6-43f3-910b-bf69e9485ff2 … via @derspiegel

I didn’t say that. I am just saying that the story could have been similar if the winners were two women or two men. I think this is deeper than a gender conflict, as people confirm when reporting conflicts between the two groups (not just the two PIs) going on for years.

Well two women won for you first time together in chemistry. You didn't see this happen. I am disappointed that you don't acknowledge that only men get away with this kind of behavior

Sexism in science is more subtle. It uses hiring committees, closed doors, etc. This is a scientific competition becoming personal and the life of a scientist is (unfortunately) often full of this shit. I found myself in two of these things as a PhD and it is unpleasant.

Using authority to attack the PhD student from the other group is cheap but common, for instance. The fact that there is a big issue of inclusiveness in science doesn’t mean that we need to read everything as a ‘battle of the sex’ thing.

I am muting you now. I don't need this toxicity.
