Indeed. Italian preserves most words from Latin.

I’ve seen a few times your name written « Animashree » (e.g here : https://research.nvidia.com/person/anima-anandkumar …). What’s the difference between the two and when are we supposed to use one or another ?
-
Shree means prosperity. It is common practice to append it to first names for women. I shortened it to Anima after coming to the US because people struggled so much to pronounce it.

Anima means Spirit or Wandering spirit in Spanish. If you don’t mind, how did your family choose that name? (it’s uncommon)
-
My mom read about Ashta Siddhi(8 forms of energy in human body) in Indian scriptures. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Siddhi#Eight_classical_siddhis … Anima is the first one. In Sanskrit, it is the power in small things. Anu means atom.

The first character in the a sound like in the word "alphabet" and not like in "ate". The first character in एनिमा is the "a" sound like in "ate"
