During my college at @iitmadras #DiversityandInclusion was non existent. We were 26 women out of ~600. Today my classmates on Facebook were joking how all women at @iitmadras were labeled non-males. #WomenInSTEM are robbed of their femininity and humanity. #PTSD never goes away

I can confirm that
@iitmadras was toxic af for women, and too many of my classmates still think about the ridiculous ways women were bullied and harassed as just fun and games. -
That’s messed up. It must have taken real courage to get through that process.

Being a woman at IIT definitely meant being part of a completely excluded minority! I know several gifted women who were made to feel like they did not belong and could not realize their potential

Unfortunately, nothing much seems to have changed. We did some work there and found the culture still not very friendly to women students. Though the specific prof and his students were great, the atmosphere wasnt

As a former student of IITBombay I hear you and it’s extremely offensive that, that mentality stayed with the male students long after they left.

This emphasises the importance of promoting inclusivity and diversity during formative years. It's so hard to change the mind wiring later (similar to changing source code on a flying plane). Unfortunately education system in India rewards unidimensional skills.

Males want to believe that females are only good with rote memory and social skills, and they are good with numbers, and manual dexterity, and decision making skills.
