In banks where I work we use models to decide the future of adults, who is going to get credit and who is not. I know it’s the norm but still I find it weird that a mode can tell you if an individual can default or not. The accuracy of these models and their quality wouldn’t(1/2)

(2/2) wouldn’t have passed undergraduate exams. My take is that models are good to predict general population trends and NOT individual behaviour. This is the whole concept of a model being robust that it will not get affected by outliers or changes in data will not dramatically

And their CEO's argument is that "it is only doing what recruiters already do"! Sure, people can be jerks, but at least some recruiters are thoughtful people. This AI is unavoidably going to be utilising protected attributes, and they are systematising and AI-washing that bias.
