Work of months and years being reviewed like in a day or two, and comments like from a bot- without appropriate pointers, narratives, construction, good intentions, and a plethora of here and there. It is as such in most of the academic research reviews. Sigh!

I agree with the sentiment. How about we abolish peer-review for conferences altogether? It obviously doesn't work. Just have a public commenting system on arxiv.

It works, but it works really badly. Removing it will just make things even worse. Fixing it (which should be possible but likely requires deep thinking and fundamental changes) is a better solution.

I have got reviews of my journal submission that were worse! Paper got rejected, but absolutely no takeaway messages from the reviewers. That paper is still in cold storage

We are all suffering reviewer-fatigue. The peer review system needs an over haul. I think it is a much bigger problem than just bad reviews.

We should have a blockchain like solution where papers are reviews are public and tied to their writers. Something like Arxiv with public reviews in a decentralized manner (doesn't have to be blockchain) it could be Arxiv itself if we talk agree to trust whoever run Arxiv

OpenReview seems to be an immediate solution.

So one of
@NeurIPSConf reviewer says The paper is not clearly written. One of the reviewer says Well written and very suitable for#NeurIPS2020. As a first timer, how should I write a rebuttal?
Any insights are welcome please... -
I just say something like - as the reviewers directly contracted each other I don’t have enough information to respond.
