96% seems too much to be wrong even for general purpose... What might be the possible reason ? Biased data ? Improper implementation ?

I think these headlines are very misleading. The metric of accuracy needs to be defined - AUC/mean error/log loss/classification error etc. - before giving out a sensational number. I'm totally on board with the dangers of facial recognition, but I think more preciseness would help

In the original thread it looks like the company is unwilling to publish any information about the accuracy of their models. They just say they "don't track it", but that's pretty clearly a lie.

96% wrong! - on a lighter note, at least we know for sure “take it with a pinch of salt” can’t work in a conversation.

Even if it was battle ready it'd still be a very bad idea to give it to any govt. organization (especially not police). The dark consequence of any govt. body being able to track everything, far exceeds any good that might come from it.

As a person of color, it would choke me to death if a dark AI technology were to fall in the hands of cops. Just the thought of it and I can't breathe.

And when it is battle ready, I would still argue it should not be in the hands of police without major reform to the criminal justice system, including police defunding and strict oversight from the civil society.

In science as in life, some things were never a good idea or if they were then they were only ok in very circumscribed contexts.
