Yann is not addressing history, he is explaining how machine learning works. History is irrelevant to machine learning, math is not. Besides, history will always be a matter of interpretation, while math is an exact science.

Wait. Seriously. Are you trying to troll here? "history is irrelevant for machine learning" since when? Do you know the history of statistics and its connection to eugenics? And "math is an exact science" - yes if you're not applying math MODELING to the real word.

*clears throat* Suresh Venkatasubramanian is one of the world’s leading researchers in this area and he is right in what he is saying. It’s not a matter of opinion, it’s a matter of fact.

I don't follow him, exactly for these reasons. And STILL these things appeared and many times when things are outrageous multiple other people share them with me. I'm sorry I got all of us into this. I don't know if it does anything.

Not just that. I have muted Yann. I realized that I learned nothing new from this tweets and his fan boys would keep attacking me. Let us not blindly listen to these so called godfathers

That about summed up what I gleaned from the conversation, explaining the role of data in machine learning was also completely unnecessary and wasn’t directed to the actual questioner, In the end I’ve found him to be in an impossible position morally, as Facebook is indefensible

The belief that anything can be made objective if you do it with math is central to scientific racism.
