Friend got a TT faculty offer from a top institution ten days ago and was promised no hiring freezes due to COVID. Today, his offer was rescinded. I know that universities are greatly impacted, but can we not do better? Why make an offer if you can't honor it? #AcademicTwitter
This is all a deja vu for me. I went on the academic job market in 2008. Many universities withdrew even interview invitations and I had one university unable to make an offer. I am grateful that the leadership at @UCIrvine decided to make me an offer despite being on furlough
