Agree with all points above. Important to mention alongside that masks alone cannot and should not replace social distancing and hand hygiene, but can be helpful if used together!
.@lexfridman blocked me when I questioned him about ethics of publicizing his work on Tesla auto pilot without peer review. He is not ethical and I am sad that you partnered with him
I often block people - not necessarily for any reason other than lack of emotional energy; I'm not sure that's inappropriate. I recommend people block liberally - otherwise twitter can be exhausting!
And I think the traditional peer review process is awful gate-keeping.
While there are flaws in the traditional peer review process, I think the combination of avoiding peer-review and blocking/suppressing critique and discussion on your work is dangerous and should be discouraged. Pre-publish but don't censor critics
Yes of course. That's the whole point of pre-publishing. To get a broader discussion. That doesn't mean you have to personally engage with people who, for instance, negatively impact your mental health. Blocking someone doesn't stop others engaging with them.
I really don't like it when blocking is stigmatized. It's an important tool for many people dealing with difficult situations, and no-one should be forced to communicate online with people they're not comfortable with.
Blocking is akin to silencing dissent. I called out #fakenews that Lex Fridman was peddling as a foot soldier of Musk. I asked for hard evidence. That is not difficult if he was doing genuine work. Dogma and bullying should never replace hard evidence.
I hope you can see that many people need to use blocking to avoid deeply disturbing campaigns designed to harm.
I block trolls who attack me with sexist comments. This is different. Lex Fridman blocked me when I asked for scientific evidence behind his work.
