I’m stupefied by the arguing (which some call ”war”) going on within the ML community. Do some people actually think in such black’n’white dogmatic ways? And do some people actually think that they have a ”leader”? Honest question.

Nope. And nope. This are just strawmen from Anima. Plenty of deep learning researchers do Bayesian research, and Yann LeCun is hardly a leader these days.

I don't think asking questions qualifies as cluelessness. In fact, you're being the dogmatic bully here, since you're convinced Bayesian methods will be increasingly important (dogma) and you're picking on a young researcher (bullying).

I work closely with
@carlesgelada and he is one of the most open-minded, least dogma-driven researchers I know. We have been thinking hard about safety, and it's for exactly that reason that we are critical of Bayesian NNs. 1/3 -
Carles sparked off an interesting technical discussion; you are attempting to frame it as an us vs. them issue ("dogmatic bully"), and are publicly putting down junior researchers in the process. This is disappointing, coming from someone with so much influence. 2/3
