I'm tired of the trope that AI research is stuck because we are looking in the wrong places or have an incorrect paradigm. AI research is "stuck" because AI is intrinsically difficult!

The 'stuck' characterization isn't even accurate. AI is making progress, but it's like a river flowing. What isn't obvious is the length of the river.

The idea of being 'stuck' implies that researchers have run out of ideas. This cannot be further from the truth. There are tons of ideas that are flowing on a daily basis. There are many new areas that are barely explored.

There cannot be a better time in doing research in AI than it is today.

Furthermore, we cannot know if some guy coming out of the left field will reveal the next big breakthrough in the field. That's why we've got to be diligent and keep our eyes on developments.

I hope you mean guy to include both genders (and also gender fluid). Please be inclusive.

I believe that's the common use of 'guy' these days.

It is meant to be because we don't have a good word in English. But rarely do I picture a woman in my mind, when I say 'guy'. Same is true for almost everyone

English will eventually make the transition. In my other tongue, there's no gender differentiation.
