Unlike the robust exteriors of the superhuman robots they fetishize, AI people tend to have thin skin. I can’t praise @GaryMarcus enough for his willingness to puncture their hubris with verve — what a shame he’s a lone crusader. And
@dmonett@frossi_t and@JanelleCShane among other women, and@filippie509@MaxALittle@simonbchen and many more. And of course my frequent collaborator Ernie Davis. -
I'd add
@missy_cummings here as well, mostly focusing on problems with applying these technologies to autonomous vehicles of all kinds. - Show replies

DL has shortcomings. But let's provide realistic compelling alternatives. DL at the moment is the least worst approach to real AI hence its stature.
-
I hope you are not suggesting that DL is beyond enrichment, or that DL+CI symbiosis is not a compelling way of overcoming DL's shortcomings. see https://ucla.in/2HI2yyx .

I see an opportunity, maybe
@AnimaAnandkumar can start inspiring people with blog/content which gets new engineers and researchers in ML/AI inspired in this direction. Most of these debates don't inspire or lack any meaningful action for readers. -
Also a lot of points don't resonate with new researchers/ engineers because connectism vs symbolism is way before our time. I loved IAS workshop on DL Theory.
