My current line of thinking is that practitioners and specialists, be they radiologists, oncologists, or meteorologists, with benefit greatly from being helped by AI, this well before any talk of outright replacement begins. So, perhaps

Not sure I agree. There are plenty of applications which require minimal interpretability. - Worklist prioritization - Scheduling of scans - Etc Many of these are largely random today. A small amount of intelligence, even if unintelligible, could go a long way.

I don't think there's much consternation over the automation of routine, albeit essential, tasks. The crux of the matter is transparency; we're pretty good at getting AI to answer specific questions, but the goal is to have it explain *exactly why* a given option is optimal.
