Most don't get it that just being a #WomenInSTEM is a constant struggle. If not for our love and passion for science, a thick skin, wonderful mentors and pure luck, we would have left a long time ago. sadly many women are not as lucky as me.https://twitter.com/celestelabedz/status/1109881911009144832 …

So, this article is obviously a contender for The Worst Bad Take and the Sunday Times should be ashamed of giving his blatant misogyny a platform. But let's take a look at his claim that "it's not as if they...build walls to keep women out." They do. Citations ahead... https://twitter.com/gleet_tweet/status/1109739578175442944 …

you do know that it's pretty much an open secret that there is preferential hiring of women in tech? I'm not saying that's a bad thing, but please remember the struggles of many decent men who can't find jobs despite their higher qualifications compared to the women hired.

Agreed that we lose far too many. And so many before they even have a chance to discover that love. Been trying to convince my younger sister to pursue a quantitative career. She is resistant. I have no answer to the immense unfairness that she would face.

You do know that it is an open secret among men at conferences that they struggle to get academic jobs but then their female colleagues with far fewer publications get faculty positions? What do we say to them?

This is exactly why girls feel it is a taboo to go to STEM fields. Shocking!

what I find really hilarious is that the director of CERN is a woman, so not sure how he thought his speech would be welcomed inside the community. I found some statistics from 2016 regarding gender balance at CERN. Actually, science stays a bit better than engineering.pic.twitter.com/f0CriYPpRK
