You are misrepresenting our stance in the post which I have issues with. I respect diverse opinions. We never said doing cool research is more important than ethics.
I'm using the current situation as an illustration of what I see as a broader problem of playing fast and loose with the potential consequences of AI applications (hence, ethics). To me, the potential for misinformation is sufficiently concerning to not open everything.
This is coming from someone (1) advocating for #openscience a lot and (2) using and teaching and developing tools in the AI/ML/etc sphere.
