We've trained an unsupervised language model that can generate coherent paragraphs and perform rudimentary reading comprehension, machine translation, question answering, and summarization — all without task-specific training: https://blog.openai.com/better-language-models/ …pic.twitter.com/360bGgoea3

Hi there. We've released a paper, samples, and small model. Not our intention to hype our research relative to others (DM me specifics here and can probably help?). How do you think about intersection of increasingly general models and potential for malicious use?

Hey
@AnimaAnandkumar, is your beef that withholding info is counter to the name “OpenAI” or to the spirit of science? If the latter, lots of examples of limiting dissemination to prevent malicious use. Think bomb making and nuclear energy. -
But this is nowhere close to bomb making and nuclear energy. OpenAI is intentionally hyping it up to look like that. I am also very doubtful it has the potential to be used for malicious use since it still has a long way to go before it sounds like a real human

Nice discussion @AminaAnandkumar beautiful questions.If you read this How Unlikely is a Doomsday Catastrophe?-Tegman and Bostrom you will understand where
@OpenAI comes from. As a mother despite being open would show your kids how to pull the safety pin off the grenade.Thanks. Twitter will use this to make your timeline better. UndoUndo

I summarize
@OpenAI controversy and my stance here.@ilyasut@zacharylipton@WWRob@Miles_Brundage@tsimonite@jjvincent@glenweyl@rasbt@beenwrekt@smerity@samcharrington@ChiefScientist@egrefen https://anima-ai.org/2019/02/18/an-open-and-shut-case-on-openai/ … -
I think
@OpenAI did the right thing It creates friction between people that want to use it Otherwise, every single teenager could use the model directly to troll I know some people on 4chan that would be estatic of this - Show replies

The Guardians example 'Clock striking 13' from Orwell is a suggestion something is dubious, not be trusted, or taken at face value. Mark Twain: "The thirteenth stroke of the clock is not only false of itself, but casts grave doubt on the credibility of the preceding twelve"
