Prof. Anima Anandkumar

For the record here is his post: http://www.overcomingbias.com/2018/04/two-types-of-envy.html …. I am very open to other examples and I have major disagreements constantly with him about language (very publicly on Twitter), but I don't think it is fair to say this post involved horrific mysogyny.

My personal take on the incident is that he fundamentally misunderstands the nature of sex. Sex is no more something one can redistribute than is honesty or integrity...one could offer more public sexuality education and mentoring which would be a great thing.

Honesty, integrity, art, creativity, wit, insight, are all things that are hard to simply take from one person and give to another. Even so, they are unequally distributed, and policies can influence those distributions. That is all that 'redistribution' means.

I think that is frankly an absurdly decontextualized verging on intellectually dishonest way of framing things. Clearly there aren't violent people out there ready to commit crimes because they are not honest enough. Demands for redistribution flow from a view that something is

A commodity. These folks believe that sex and particularly women's bodies are commodities, something your piece was implicitly sympathetic to. If you do not believe sex is a commodity and instead believe it is a virtue you should say so.

I have not seen the movie so I am loath to draw strong conclusions based on this
