I debated at #DALI2019 about enforcing code release and #reproducibility in #AI #ML #conferences. This is the right thing to do: it is fair and it will ensure honest progress. Otherwise we are headed to next #AIwinter. https://anima-ai.org/2019/01/04/reproducibility-debate-should-code-release-be-compulsory-for-conference-publications/ …

Perhaps we need two kinds of papers: "Reproducible papers with code" and "Speculative papers without code". Deep Learning is sufficiently complex that you just can't trust likely cherry picked results.

Shouldn't "speculative papers" be theoretical papers instead? Speculative, in itself, shouldn't warrant papers as they would just be.. unproven ideas, right?

"You really need to learn what theory means". Was that in a general context or you mean I'm misinterpreting what theory is? Bit confused with the phrasing

I am surprised you called theory speculation. Theory makes assumption and proves under those assumptions. Problem is now we don't know if assumptions hold in complex domains like images. Still very different from pure speculation

Sorry, but that phrasing then was not appreciated. I'm sure you wouldn't like it if someone asked you to "really learn" the meaning of something. 1/

And I didn't imply theory was speculation. I meant that the category of "speculative papers" shouldn't be there at all and instead it should only be categories of theoretical papers and papers with reproducible results with code. Speculative papers made less sense to me
