More importantly, go back to fundamentals. Low hanging fruits of #DeepLearning are getting exhausted. You will need creativity + hard work. You will need techniques outside #DeepLearning to make a unique impact. Invest in that learning and focus on long term.

absolutely. review tone and openness to outside ideas came across as a major theme in the inclusion survey. try to be open minded as a reviewer when evaluation tasks are outside the dozen we see regularly in ML papers. >
and recognize there a multiple ways to contribute. this makes reviewing take a bit more effort (autopilot fails you have to think) but the benefit can be huge. flashy applications that take huge compute are not always indicative of important work. >
