Just found this thread. I, of course, skipped Elon Musk's talk and so far have not heard about him saying this. Was there great science there? No? Then perhaps don't invite celebrities anymore..
No one is inviting him. The companies are holding events on their own. For some, it is all about grabbing attention and notoriety is the cheapest way to do this. Broculture, sexist jokes and toxic party culture all go in hand with that
Oh, this was a private event! I went to quite a few parties and they seemed fine. I am probably not even invited to the wild ones:) Not that I'd miss them. Sad that the whole community appears as noninclusive because of stupidity like this. I can see how this can look scary. :(
These "parties" seem important to junior people, especially since they see their friends going and "big name" celebrities speaking there.
