I suspect the hold-up is that any name so far from the original might decimate the book-keeping and impact-factor tracking that rightly or wrongly play a serious role in dictating people's careers at many universities.
I disagree that the reputation will be compromised. Reputation is decided by the senior members of research community. So that won't be an issue
I don't think the issue is reputation (in the community) but rather recognition (by people outside our research community) that this work *counts* towards people's tenure cases and such.
As an example of how backwards things can get, I know that in many European universities (and many departments), no conference papers, even NIPS/ICML, count towards tenure committees.
