How much do you think the vote was the result of language brearer? As a non-English speaker, I didn't know that NIPS is a slur. Another question is should we consider all the languages or just English? Btw I personally vote for changing the name.

Yes, this is a valid question. I am a grad student in Germany and no one in my lab was able to understand what is wrong with the name NIPS. Even the girls. I think the problem exists only in native english speaking countries.
