Why would someone object to being searched in an area of high crime during a period where we have seen a high rise in knife attacks. I have no objection to being searched, and welcome it if it gets knifes off the streets a bit more.

I tend to agree with much of what you say. But not on this. Far too many think they know more than they actually do when it comes to real life policing. You're not the one out there doing the job. The majority are decent men and women doing a thankless job with many barriers 1/2

2/2 in their way. The UK (Scotland included) had one of the softest justice systems in the world. There are many criminals out there and many who's actions effect us all in some way. Any support in place to tackle crime is needed. PC murdered today. Society needs tougher laws
