I'm inclined to agree with Schmitt that sovereignty is a theological notion. And so it's a notion that's only as useful ...
-
... as the theological baggage it pulls along in its wake. (You can smell the metaphysics in the first sentence: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sovereignty …)
-
Here's a question, that I don't know the answer to: To what extent is talking of sovereignty a confused way of talking of jurisdiction?
-
I would personally prefer to limit discussion to jurisdiction, as that operationalizes the issue.
-
And formalism of the Moldbuggian variety is, to a large extent, an attempt to operationalize affairs, no?
-
Your metaphysics observation is on the nose, & at the heart of reservations I have about the usefulness of sovereignty as a term..
-
.. As used it's a kind of expectations model of the real (running on fickle bio-hardware that we still dont well understand)..
-
..and those expectations can be updated Fast, by something not previously priced in.
