U of Chicago has been the center of neoclassical economics for decades, but people only notice it's conservative after a silly letter?

I'm bored with the culture wars but this is emblematic of the sheer historical ignorance and narcissistic myopia brought to these debates.

Thomas Piketty took apart the Chicago school in his big book, as I described here.http://www.slate.com/articles/technology/technology/2014/04/thomas_piketty_capital_in_the_twenty_first_century_surprisingly_entertaining.html …

Apparently faulty theories of human nature leading to cruel survival-of-the-fittest economic policies are nothing next to "No safe spaces!"

The progressive mindset today: coddle college students (as long as they pay tuition), screw everyone else. A real liberal would be outraged.

I personally think that the University of Chicago went south after Hutchins and Adler took over in the 30s. They were great til then.

Hutchins and Adler put forth a backwards neo-Aristotelian Catholic program. Martin Gardner talks about it here: http://www.ams.org/notices/200506/fea-gardner.pdf …

I wrote an essay trashing Jew-turned-Catholic Adler in 11th grade. I still have it, it was pretty funny. Even then I disliked pomposity.
