Seems like the law is pretty clear, the Legalize Now party is defined as a major party and with their candidate passing away the election is required to be postponed. It's unfortunate but not unjust.

only thing is that federal law mandates that the election be held on November 3rd, and thanks to Article VI, Paragraph 2 of the Constitution, that supersedes state law.

Why was this necessary?

MN law says because a candidate (Adam Weeks) died, the election for this office is delayed until February. The MN law seems to conflict with federal law, which sets the election date at Nov 13. The lawsuit is to sort that out and hopefully avoid the seat being empty for a month.
