On this day in 1868, the United States ratified the 14th Amendment, granting citizenship and “equal protection of the laws,” to all men born or naturalized in the United states – including African Americans and former slaves who had been emancipated following the Civil War.

One place to start would be to end the war on drugs that, in addition to being futile & harmful to the country overall, has disproportionately hurt poc. Additionally, federal govt should fund public schools across US so all funded = to public schools in wealthiest communities

There’s an enormous amount to do and only so much that can be addressed at once. However, prison labor needs serious changes if we want the spirit of the 14th to continue. The letter of the 14th just made slavery with extra steps imo.

I also imagine that working for cents per hour in prisons negatively impacts American labor. (Living wage + labor laws + unions) can’t compete with .10-.40$/hr and a captive workforce. Just thoughts. I know we can’t change everything overnight.
