    "Why bother when I can just work on my powerful local machine?" is something I hear once in a while. The value is this: I can now build a CRA + Express app *from my iPad* — or even my phone, if I have to. And supports a tonne of languages:

    It was just as much fun to tear it all down to a basic proof-of-concept starter app for that article, which you can find at — though because CRA is so power-hungry, this is the kind of app that is easierto work on when boosted.

    I got to lead the engineering work on this (which really means, "thank goodness I had such smart engineers working with me"), and one of the biggest challenges was getting both create-react-app and Express playing nicely together in a single project.

    We see fun, playful things like having an entire event & hackathon that's run by a Glitch app — and countless new virtual hackathons happening on Glitch so we can be together online if we can't be there in person.

    For example, I've assumed that I don't need a GH bot account for Danger Swift to work as a GitHub Action, and I've stated that here: I don't think that's why it's throwing an error, but it's a mental save point that I can go back to to try something else.

    Also, always always ALWAYS state your assumptions when writing something like this up. For one, it helps a lot with debugging. For two, it serves as a reminder that there will always be gaping holes in your experience, knowledge, and understanding. Embrace them!

    One thing I find helpful when trying to learn something that's a couple of levels more advanced than my understanding of the domain is to write a friction log — a carefully annotated description of every step, the result of that step, and how it deviates from my expectations.

    I don't really know much about CI tools. I mean, I understand what CI is, why it helps, and how to use the specific tools I've worked with, but setting up a toolchain from scratch has always felt daunting, and Danger + GitHub Actions seems like a good starting point!
