Tuesday Guess Day...Tuesday's posts will feature a guessing game about something in the Angeles National Forest. The answer will be revealed 24 hours or so later. I'm native to California. Butterflies and bees love me. I'm also drought tolerant. What plant am I? 🤔

In addition to gusty Santa Ana winds through Tues., up to 4 in. of snow is predicted in the mts. tonight at 3,500-4,000 ft. in elevation. Thank you, for helping keep people safe and letting us know when we can expect more frosty stuff!

Gusty #SantaAnaWinds are expected tonight through tomorrow with gusts of 30-50 mph for the mountains of LA and Ventura Counties. It will be dry but no fire weather issues are expected due to the signifcant rainfall we've had. #CAwx
Gusty northeast winds will develop tonight across the Santa Ana wind-prone region of Los Angeles and Ventura Counties. The strongest winds will be over the mountains and foothills, with gusts 40-50 mph, and a bit lower in the valleys and coastal areas with gusts of 30-45 mph. Impacts of the wind will be hazardous driving conditions due to gusty cross winds, downed trees and tree limbs, and possible power outages. Slow down while driving, watch for blowing objects, and keep a safe distance from other vehicles.

A cold storm will move over the area Sun into Mon with mainly light rain expected. Mountain snow will be the main impact, with 4-8" of snow possible above 4500' in the San Gabriels, & 1-2" possible on the Grapevine with winter driving conditions. Use caution! #CAwx #LASnow
A cold winter storm is expected to impact the area on Sunday and Monday. Overall, the storm is expected to be on the weak side. Most areas will received one quarter inch or less of rainfall although areas in the San Gabriel Mountains could receive between one quarter to three quarters of an inch of rainfall. The main issue with this storm will be snow levels. Snow levels on Sunday will drop to around 4000 feet, but will drop even further Sunday night and Monday, down to the 2500 to 3000 foot range. So, mountain areas can expect some accumulating snowfall, with 1-2 inches of snow possible on the Grapevine. Additionally, the low snow levels will likely result in some hazardous winter driving conditions for the Grapevine area, and on other mountain roads, Sunday night and Monday. Picture shows a mountain road with snow on the sides of the road.

Firefighters have completed prescribed fire activities in Big Pines today. Crews continue to "mop up" & patrol the area. "Mop up" includes breaking apart smoldering debris & extinguishing hot spots so they cannot ignite unburned areas. There will be no prescribed fire tomorrow.

Here are some photos taken yesterday in the #angelesnationalforest. The photo of the snowy road was taken in the Crystal Lake Recreation Area. In other photos you can see flooding in/around the San Gabriel Canyon OHV (Off-Highway Vehicle) Area. #nature #snow #flooding
A road runs through a forested area with tall trees and mountains in the background. Snow covers the scene on an otherwise sunny day.

Upcoming rain this week could trigger flooding and debris flows near previously burned areas. Always check weather & road conditions before heading into the forest as conditions could change unexpectedly.

If you're planning on driving through higher elevations in the forest, please make sure you are prepared. Have snow chains, extra food, warm clothes, and enough gas to make it your destination and back. There is little to no cell phone service in the mountains.
