Get rid of it. Citizens should vote for the President. Not land.

Devil’s advocate: Poor rural areas and small states will never be heard from or considered again. Candidates will only care about votes from the more populated states and cities.
-
Devils advocate: Everyone’s vote in that rural area will still count just as much or even more. Should we keep the EC just so candidates travel to certain states? Sounds ludicrous.
-
Please, don’t think I’m arguing for Republicans or the EC. I just like seeing both sides of a debate. But I do think the needs of big cities would be the candidate’s focus instead of everyone. Believe me, there is no easy answer to the EC question.
-
There are plenty of rural areas in non contested states. I think one of the reason politicians are mostly opposed to this change, is that it would make the many years of experience of their seasoned campaign people obsolete overnight. That shouldn't matter, but of course will.
-
People are blaming the wrong problem. The problem isn't really the electoral college, it's that there are States which have huge electoral votes that are winner take all. If every State regardless of population had to split it's electors by popular vote that would fix the system
-
I think this has lots of potential. Couldn’t the government at least explore the possibilities of abandoning the winner-takes-all system?

Yes. One citizen... one vote. Total votes = Winner. I can’t believe how difficult this is for people to grasp.
-
Exactly. The way it stands now with the Electoral College, a vote in Wisconsin is worth 3.6 times more than a vote in California.
-
And all they come back with is... “Why should liberal California count more than Rhode Island?!” Because the opposite is currently true... and neither should be true! GRRR

The
#ElectoralCollege was instituted for the sole purpose of protecting voters from themselves , “should they be swayed by a populist demagogue, and vote for him.” They instead, relinquished their duty, therefore they are no longer needed, nor vital to the process.#Deadweight -
I'm for eliminating the Electoral College. Let's elect a Dem POTUS and a Dem Senate in 2020. And start working on it today!

All votes should be equal.

As a New Yorker, my vote is not equal to a vote placed in states like Wyoming. I wish to vote directly for our president with everyone’s vote counted as one full vote.
-
Especially because as New Yorkers, we have the joy of getting way less benefit back on our federal tax dollars than those states, so when you factor that in it's an even greater difference of power.

When the election of a prom queen is more fair and representative of what people want than the election of a President, then it’s time to eliminate the Electoral College. It’s time! One person, one vote.

get rid of the electoral college so everyone's vote count not just certain states
-
By getting rid of it, it will do exactly that! The most populous states will be the ONLY ones to have a say. It overrides all the little states and towns votes.
-
the bigger states have the most electoral college votes. Each individual voter's vote should count as equally as the next man. Maybe they should have a celebrity death match between the candidates.pic.twitter.com/FSyRUr8kSa

Seems like this is what the world is coming to! Lol but this is why the EC was established so that the larger states dont dictate the rest of the country.. also so the presidential candidates don't just go campaign in the larger states!

But because of this system they only go to places like Iowa. No offense to Iowa, but elected Steve King. I dont feel like it is representative of most Americans.
