Me: "Immigrants & natives have similar opinions about public policies, except for the issue of immigration." Internet: "That's not true, black people have different voting patterns than whites." Me: "So?" Internet: "Let me tell you about race!" Me: ....
Alex, you can't possibly not get this. If immigration policy selected more blacks to come in, it would probably cease to be the case that "immigrants and natives have similar opinions". The point is that "immigrants" are a red herring, and a main predictor of opinion is race.

At the end of the day, what hispanic immigration does is increase the number of hispanics in the United States, and hispanics in the United States have had less libertarian policy views for a long time. Until that changes (unlikely), opposition to hispanic migration will persist.

I know you haven’t corrected for ethnic attrition, so I won’t even ask. As for libertarianism, Hispanics are about as likely as whites to self-ID that way. http://assets.pewresearch.org/wp-content/uploads/sites/12/2014/08/FT_who-is-libertarian.png ….pic.twitter.com/4eUwmErBDQ

They can self-ID however they want, but who cares if that isn't translating into actual libertarianism on the issues. Some hispanics identify as "Republican" too, but hispanic Republicans have opinions closer to white Dems/moderates than white Republicans on non-social issues.
