I'm not sure how the Proud Boys intend to benefit from statements like these: “We want [Portland] to waste $2 million and we’ll do it again in two months." "This is a pure optics operation. If you’re looking for 4th degrees [PB rank for assault] this is not the event to do it."
The Proud Boys are biting the hand that feeds them and laughing about it -- this has to be embarrassing for Portland leadership. The Proud Boys' assault rallies, and deadly white nationalist events like Unite the Right, are the direct result of ignoring these groups and letting them grow without oversight
If attacking people with bats and fists while staying otherwise completely silent were speech, we wouldn’t be having this conversation
