I have sent to the Chief Inspector of Schools a letter from the head of a London primary school to parents, asserting without explanation: ‘Live streaming or live lessons are not something that we can provide or indeed are the best ways of providing online learning for pupils.’

I have expressed my serious concern at this situation. The school is dismissing the best practice of many state and private schools which are providing at least some ‘live’ teaching & activities and whose pupils will end this crisis with a much better education.

Not all kids have the same online access as each other. Live teaching is not happening here in Scotland either. It is impractical and discriminatory against vulnerable children and those who have no access reliable internet connections. The last thing parents need is pressure

Problems with online learning: Some students may not have the IT to access They may have to share it with adults and other siblings Reliable broadband is not always available Students may use phone data but that is also limited Teachers may be dealing with own young family (1/n)
-
Teachers may not have adequate IT or broadband for working from home Older laptops and computers do not have internal cameras and microphones - and staff may not have these at home Live teaching is more complex than people imagine and teachers have had no training (2/n)

Good on her. She has my total respect. I think it's more than likely she's fully in touch with her families & is working out what is helpful to them - rather than blindly following this 'one size fits all' approach that you insist on repeatedly sharing.

@Keir_Starmer Please have a word with Lord@Andrew_Adonis . The concern should be about whether parents have enough money for gas, electricity and to feed their families So many parents have been furloughed or find themselves without any income whatsoever. This is the priority -
I think
@Keir_Starmer needs to have strong words with@Andrew_Adonis before he alienates every Labour voting teacher across the country! He is not helping the cause one bit! This is a time when MPs should be saying, 'What can we do to support you and the families you teach?'

“a prime reason is ‘not to add any unnecessary pressure on families who may already be struggling.’” So... you want to add ‘unnecessary pressure’?
-
Research doesn't support the idea that live-streaming is best practice in distance learning.
