But isn’t his plan to essentially let them in and make them citizens ASAP? It seems shortsighted considering the economic problems that are on the horizon.

People don’t immigrant to the US and become citizens right away. It takes decades. I don’t know any country that bypasses the green card process and become citizens right away. Even Canada doesn’t work that way.
