Reflecting on #NeurIPS2019. Great meeting as usual, but the AI community is maturing, which felt bittersweet. Bitter because:

Bayesian methods and causality got a lot of buzz. I was excited about progress in self-supervised learning, while others were excited about federated learning, or using DL to predict biological sequences. Fascinating areas, but the AI community no longer marches in one direction.
