Thanks for your kind words---you're one of very few viewers who commented that these lectures were taped DURING the Financial Crisis! Every weekend, something huge would happen that we'd have to discuss in class on Mondays (Lehman, AIG, BAC, etc.). Super exciting and stressful!

Super honored to be recognized with John Hull and for "Funding Long Shots". Better financial engineering tools are critical for meeting society's biggest challenges---finance isn't a zero-sum game if we play it right!

Honored to work with of and my students Kien Wei Siah and Chi Heem Wong on new pub predicting clinical trial outcomes of lung cancer patients using ; PDL1 biomarker is strongest predictor. We can do even better with multi-omics:

Rarely does one get a chance to give a 45-min talk about one's role model and mentor; I had that privilege earlier this month at Bob Merton's 75th birthday celebration. My talk: "Robert C. Merton: The First Financial Engineer". Thanks, Bob, for my career!

Adaptive platform trials are the future of medicine from time, cost, efficacy, and patient perspectives. Truly honored to be part of the APT Coalition that just published an overview of this powerful approach to drug and device development:

Honored to have spoken at 2019 on how machine learning predictions of clinical trials outcomes using database can reduce the cost of capital for drug development. In case you're on vacation and finished watching ,

Super proud of my brother Martin, a real rocket scientist, for Brouwer award for “seminal contributions in nonlinear astrodynamics and dynamical astronomy and the using of dynamical systems theory and low energy trajectories to space mission design.”

If you've never attended a lecture of Patrick Winston's, you're in for a real treat. He's as inspiring a teacher as he is a researcher, and I would urge anyone who cares about the craft of teaching to watch this maestro at work and learn from his example.

We lost one of the founding fathers of today. Patrick Winston was world-class scholar and educator, and an inspiration to all of us at MIT. He taught us so much about the workings of the artificial, but in the end, it is his humanity, stories, grace that we will miss most.

Congrats to Neil Kumar and the entire team at and their subs for successful IPO! Great for investors, but even better for patients with rare genetic diseases. Starting with mostly preclinical assets, now has 4 in Phase 3! Portfolio theory works, even in biotech.

Agreed, but wouldn't it be interesting to quantify relative contribution of betting style vs. accuracy? Especially in comparison to past Jeopardy champs? By simulating different betting strategies for each champ, we can replay history to see how much better Kelly does.

Master's thesis project: assuming a flexible functional form for his utility, reverse-engineer his risk aversion coefficient implicit in his betting strategy. Ph.D. thesis project: simulating various different betting strategies, test for 1st and 2nd order stochastic dominance.

Cool project for undergrad thesis: simulate his performance but assuming a different betting strategy for Daily Doubles: (a) conservative (10% of total); (b) Kelly; (c) random; etc. If it's really second order, the simulations should all yield about the same P&L.
