I worked in direct response marketing for 14 years and worked with some obnoxious Republican clients who had non-medical doctoral degrees. And lemme tell you, if we didn't put "Dr." in front of their names on press releases or TV commercial chyrons, we heard about it.

Because PhDs are globally respected and called as doctors not necessarily MD or MBBS holders. And Americans don’t think so, so they correct it.

Good thing your wife didn’t grant Dr. Jill Biden her EdD. MDs are not the arbiters of who can/cannot be addressed as “Dr” nor when or where it is “perfectly okay” to address a person with an earned doctorate as “Dr”. Your wife should be more concerned with how SHE is addressed
