When a teacher mentions anything about gender and sexuality, including just having a photo on her desk of her wife: 👹👹 she's a government employee!!!! state actor!!!! fire her!!!! When a teacher leads students in prayer: she's a private actor on her private time 🥰 BFFR.

If one takes seriously the charge of being a public employee and a state actor, it’s clear that teachers aren’t supposed to be independent free agents. @rickhess99 @rpondiscio @AEIdeas bit.ly/3kHd3cK

In two experiments, exposure to Confederate flags led whites to evaluate hypothetical Black targets more negatively & lowered their willingness to vote for Obama. Good reminder that the preservation of Confederate monuments, statues, & flags isn't harmless. It's consequential.

What strikes me urgently about this debate on banning trans rights is that everyone in support is in support because of religion which they want to use to legislate for ALL other people. Is it so hard to believe that what you believe may not apply to everyone else? #moleg

13 Missouri clergy members filed a lawsuit against the state’s illegal abortion ban. As clergy myself, I support equitable access to reproductive care because of my faith — not in spite of it. Proud to see our local faith leaders taking action to affirm our fundamental rights.

Thirteen clergy members from six religious backgrounds have filed a lawsuit challenging Missouri’s abortion ban ahead of #RoeVWade’s 50th Anniversary. “Missouri’s abortion bans are an unconscionable abuse of religion to oppress all Missourians.” news.stlpublicradio.org/government-pol

"'In enacting and enforcing the Challenged Provisions, legislators imposed their preferred religious doctrine on everyone, forcing the citizens and taxpayers of this State to fund the establishment of that doctrine.'"

Reminder: vouchers were first created by segregationists pissed off the Brown v. Board of Ed. required desegregated public schools. The goal was to publicly fund private schools that could still discriminate. And that's part of the goal today. Don't fall for their lies.

When equity is everything that we hear, it truly baffles me that those who fight so hard for it are the same ones who are so strongly opposed to Parental Choice! What could be more fair than supporting every Iowa student equally?

11 dead in Monterey Park 12 wounded in Baton Rouge 7 dead in Half Moon Bay 2 students dead in Des Moines 300 shot EVERY SINGLE DAY Every time you vote for a lawmaker who opposes gun safety, you’re voting for policies that make it more likely your loved one will be slaughtered.

Just to be clear, when the New York Times reported that the FBI saw “no link between Trump and Russia” — a week before the 2016 election — the FBI agent who was just arrested over ties to Russian oligarch Oleg Deripaska was heading up the investigation. Just an absolute scandal.

Destroying public education is explicitly the goal of the architects of this legislation.

Utah's Weighted Pupil Unit (WPU) for 2023 is $4038. A radical faction of the GOP is trying to give TWICE that, $8000, to private, for-profit schools in a voucher system. Voting for HB 215 is the first step towards dismantling public education, plain and simple.

Vouchers and school choice were created to maintain segregated public schools. Both are a way to publicly fund discrimination. Here, Mat Staver kicks off #SchoolChoiceWeek by saying Christian schools, which get most of the voucher $$, must discriminate against LGBTQ families.

Religious-right attorney Mat Staver says Christian schools must ban children of same-sex couples otherwise students might have positive "personal experiences" with such families, which could undermine their understanding of "biblical doctrine." bit.ly/3GZ3vkR

Betsy Devos supported vouchers and school choice "to help advance God's Kingdom" and recenter the church, which was "displaced by the public school." Don't let them fool you. School choice and vouchers are about destroying public education.

It's National #SchoolChoice Week. This is your reminder that Kyle Olson, who co-chaired and co-created that week said the quiet part out loud. What are vouchers and school choice really about? Destroying public education. "Yes, Jesus would destroy the public education temple."
