    I'm delighted with my wee 7.5% or so up from practically nothing! Onto the council and Scottish elections--and good luck to Kirsten. All the candidates here have been delightful. We'll keep building up here and pushing for the Good Old Cause.

    Result: Davidson (Lab): 6,855; Masterton (Con): 19,451; McGlynn (LibDem): 4,174; Oswald (SNP): 24,877. Kirsten Oswald (SNP) is elected MP for East Renfrewshire. Turnout: 76.9%.

    I'm really enjoying travelling around my constituency from polling station to polling station, doorstep to doostep. I'm proud of being in East Ren, because of the politeness here--even when politics don't align. There is a lot to be had from having disagreement with grace.

    A few election thoughts: Tribalism is a cancer in politics, enhanced by social media. The idea that my side is virtuous and yours is evil, that all Tories are heartless, all in Labour are brainless, all Brexiters racist and all Leavers traitors is depressing, unhelpful and wrong

    So this is a self interested rant. Generally, about once every two years, my bicycle is stolen. Looking at the cost of insuring it, that seems pretty average. The police have never investigated - which I understand. 1/x

    Vote tactically or vote on your beliefs, both are valid options. What isn't valid is breaking the arguments against Corbyn down into whether you "like" him or not. For many it is a lot more complicated. Concerns regarding anti-semitism for example aren't about liking the man. 1/2

    And, to all the people saying that a vote for anyone else is a vote for continued austerity and less fairness, I don't agree. Many of Labour's universal benefit plans would disproportionately benefit the middle classes. I don't think the economics are well thought out.
