Illegal is an adjective/noun/plural noun. IE: That person who overstayed his visa is now an illegal immigrant IE: That person who crossed my country’s border without providing documentation is now an illegal IE: That group of people who used false docs to enter are illegals

By law the correct term is illegal alien, not illegal immigrant. If they entered the country illegally they are NOT "immigrants" they are aliens (citizens of other countries) who have illegally crossed out borders or over stayed their authorized visit.
