Alt: APA6-Style. I found that CS references become mere markers more easily, in that authors will simply "tag" their statements like this: [3,4,11,14] Psychology papers on the other hand make it easier to refer to authors and statements so that they go better with the flow

For example, Hofmeister, Siegmund and Holt (2018) found, that abbreviated identifier names can hinder comprehension performance during defect detection tasks.

Alphanumeric (third option) is IMO best since IME it's the best format if you're searching in the document for the text of the citation to find everywhere it's mentioned (or in the cited works list where it's defined); fully numeric leads to false positives

This. Also, if you have to write your paper in a tool with poor bib support (like Word), 2 is a nightmare but 1 and 3 work well, with 3 being by far less pain to type. 3, PLEASE!

I am thinking that ACM should impose fewer standards on shit like this

Author-year + page limits punishes work with well researched related work sections. Numeric allows [4-12] constructs. Most paper reading I do is PDF on a computer, so I can use hyperlinks to jump to the right citation by clicking on it...
