Microsoft got themselves in a weird spot with the Xbox naming situation Xbox Xbox 360 Xbox One Xbox One X Then what do you do? You can't go Xbox 2/Two because Sony has PlayStation 5 and 2 is less than 5. That matters a lot when non-gamer parents are buying consoles for kids.
That said, I think going the way they did was sloppy at best. We saw how confused the market was with Wii and Wii U. Even something like Xbox Series R and Series S would have been better than including the same letter they had in the previous generation. BIG oof
If the machine comes in the mail in a matter of days, the parents not gonna treat that as a christmas gift, they'll think it's a happy early present if it's before even Halloween. Those kids are gonna be let down a lot faster then in 3 months.
I mentioned this to some friends of mine back when pre-orders were just opening. Target especially had the One S All-Access bundle listed but didn't have the Series S or X at the time.

Well parents these days are 80s/90s kids and should be savvy enough to do some research! This isnt like my parents back in the 90s who didnt grow up with video games/computers.
