Associate core file with binary: gdb -quiet -core /path/to/core -batch -ex 'info auxv'|grep AT_EXECFN|perl -pe "s/^.*\"(.*)\"\$/\$1/"
There seems to be no good documentation about this out there. Some people use file, but that has limitations in still used versions.

EXEC_FN isn't always set; have to do both in my experience if not in full control of build chain.

Afaict it should always be there on any linux released in the last ~9 years. But I just skimmed the source.
