My team take sick days (*not* vacation) (long weekends or other). Managers including myself will fix if they try using vacation. Also have and will support people on my team taking medical leave for mental health. Same benefits (and requirements) as any other medical condition.https://twitter.com/alicegoldfuss/status/1131227631548915712 …
That's great! No sarcasm intended. It's important to have good policies around this. But even among companies/teams that do, most only offer ~15 days of PTO at start. IME that's very close to the absolute minimum a lot of reasonably hard-working people need to stave off burnout.

And a lot of people (including me) feel like they need some PTO reserve, leading to not even taking those 15 days. A lot of managers manage around such limits, but that's not really a solution.

Google is big, but at least in my org... You can borrow against future PTO w/ manager approval. Explicitly encouraged to help avoid reserves. And so others don't get confused, this doesn't impact mental health days. Mental health issues are health issues -> sick days!
