If, say, Russia was trying to detach an ally like Turkey from NATO, who in the US would be working to keep that from happening?

Not so sure about that. There's pretty widespread annoyance about Turkey, which has a number of Germans incarcerated.

Well, for some there's a fair amount of angst about Turkey drifting further away from the West. US bases are one of the bigger holdbacks.

By far. When Merkel and Erdogan started this feud she pulled Germany out of Incirlik and moved them to Jordan. The cost is unreal
