Spain, Italy, Germany, Singapore publish daily, data-rich epi updates. In the US, situational awareness is largely courtesy of volunteer projects and 50 state health dept websites. We must modernize our surveillance and reporting infrastructure to be able to respond effectively.

It's unclear / inconsistent how deaths are counted. There's no good / centralized tracking of number of hospitalized patients with covid (there's partial voluntary tracking of patients in ICUs).

Death counts in German reporting is very problematic. No consistency at all in testing and mortality stats amongst European nations.
