Why do you assume your gut instincts on the political risks of securing the deal--in which she presumably secured significant concessions for workers--are more likely to be accurate than Pelosi's calculations? Perhaps you're right--but is there any basis for such confidence?

It may provide a bit of cover for the Dems in swing-y to moderately R districts. Obviously not going to convince Trump base, but the the suburban GOP voter that is concerned with Trump, but also wants government to do something? Plus maternity leave

(as restricted as it seems to be) isn't the worst argument to have to convince suburban women to further move away from the GOP.
