I mean, they figured out how to put blue checkmarks next to some people's profiles. How hard would it be to verify all profiles? O even anybody willing to pay, say, $5 for the privilege of proving they're not bots.

I think it might make sense to *allow* anonymous profiles provided a relatively small amount of money is paid. People that sufficiently desire anonymity can pay with some prepaid card.

I don't think giving Twitter/$service a database of pseudonym <-> government ID mappings of accounts that care about being pseudonymous is a sane thing to do. Especially not in some countries with lesser protections of free speech.
