I think it might make sense to *allow* anonymous profiles provided a relatively small amount of money is paid. People that sufficiently desire anonymity can pay with some prepaid card.

I'm fine with pseudonymous accounts. I just think they ought to be verified as real.

I don't think giving Twitter/$service a database of pseudonym <-> government ID mappings of accounts that care about being pseudonymous is a sane thing to do. Especially not in some countries with lesser protections of free speech.
