I hope people see how precedent the Trump admin wants to get against WikiLeaks under the Espionage Act can easily be turned around and used on mainstream reporters. Hard to overstate how dangerous it would be for press freedom.https://www.wsj.com/articles/u-s-is-optimistic-it-will-prosecute-assange-1542323142 …

Won't that depend hugely on what Assange is indicted for?

The indictment is based on the Iraq War cables from 2010, which were reported on by all major outlets. If Trump is successful prosecuting Assange, he could follow up by naming any outlets he dislikes with co-conspirator charges.

Where do you know that from? The story doesn't say afaik, nor do the more recent stories about the accidental disclosure of Assange already having been charged. Other outlets would trivially get such charges thrown out.

I've followed this story since the DOJ investigation started in 2010. They're pursuing the same avenue for prosecution that Obama refused because of its press freedom implications. Trump wants to expand the espionage act bc there are no legal defenses for it.
